* * * * * * * * * * * Russian Dance Workshop & Lecture * * * * * * * * * *
A Russian dance workshop and lecture with choreographer and ensemble director Natasha Lozovsky-Burns will be offered on July 14, 15, 17, and 18.
Natasha will begin by covering the basic elements of Russian dance, followed by center-work exercises/combinations based on Russian character dance, the dance "Farm Polka," and a village dance. If you are interested in auditing (watching only), everyone is welcome!
Natasha’s lecture on Friday will focus on the definition of Russian character dance through lecture and some demonstration. Why is it called Russian character? What differentiates Russian from Ukrainian dance? How has Russian folk dancing evolved from dances in the village to staged performances? What constitutes a 'character' barre versus a ballet barre? Bring all of your questions!
The workshop will be held as part of the annual convention of the BDAA in the Hobby Horse Room of Harrah's Casino on Mon-Tues-Thurs-Fri of the week July 14-18. The workshop will be held each day from 1:30-2:45 pm, and the lecture will be on Friday from 3:00-4:15 pm. The cost for all of these events will be $40. For more details, please contact Zeny/Janis Ocean at 746-1809 or Judith Robey at jrobey@animail.net.
